My last post on Mavis Staples was my 99th post here at Blogger (yes, I know, there are more than 99 posts in my archive...some 'followed' me across from MySpace). Does that earn me some kind of gold star? I'm guessing not, but I thought I would mark the occasion with some songs with titles containing the number '99'; there are tonnes out there, so this is just a selection. In fact, I whittled it down from 40-something. There are 19 songs here (not quite an arbitrary number...think nineteen-ine! Ha!) and where better to start than with Mavis Staples herself...
(There are squillions of versions of this song, but this is a good'un...and it just made sense to start with Mavis, so, same song twice!)

Wa-hoo! I'm impressed by your list--I could only think of like 2 "99 songs" at the top of my head--Jay-z and Sould Asylum...
None immediately sprung to mind..but the piccy is of a 99 Ice cream..yum!
Hey Pab...welcome back...have missed you! The pic is indeed of a 99 ice cream...was fairly sure that was a British concept, so thought I'd ask! And the title...comes from 'Justified and Ancient' by KLF featuring Tammy Wynette. Awesome tune!
